Hi everyone,

Just to start with - mods, if this needs moving, please do so!

So - here's the place to start talking about what/how we can help.

I've already stated that I have free webspace for a new site - but I don't have the skills.

Lets share ideas :)

I'd made a thread, too, but I've just deleted it so no duplication.

Heya, bubblecat.

Having said this, now must disappear for deadline confronting me.

First thing I think we need - a catchy/relevant name for the campaign and/or site.

My first thought was Safe Haven..but I would suggest more suggestions!

Also - I think we should support a group who will be on the inside. My suggestion is Oxfam, but it's UK based.

Following on from a comment on Whedonesque, it looks like Jonathan Woodward already has ideas.

It would be good to have a focus - how about using this for starters?

Not to say we can't have another website with many links, like Gossi has suggested with auctions etc. I'm not sure that Jonathan's website has that facility?

I'm not really sure if it needs and a website and all that joy - it might be worth getting existing sites to all carry the same information?

Just as a link roundup of what I've gotten from reliable sources so far, there's a memo from the White House going around that directs people toward places to donate. It's more or less what's here . And the Haitian Embassy  is asking for supplies to go into survival kits . That part's local information for DC but since they have a presence in some other U.S. cities there might be efforts going on elsewhere that fans could contribute to this weekend.

That may well be, gossi - I don't myself have a good sense of what sites are around & available in the Whedonite community, and who could, say, let us run fundraisers, etc. from their pages.

Maybe in that case, we could compile groups/sites to approach?

Re: name - shame that b!X is working right now - he's very good at the naming.

Maybe our focus could be two-fold - rounding up/compiling all the ways/links to give - as Sunfire is doing? And rounding up stuff for a fundraiser/online auction?

(Shame about the Safehaven sites, though...)

I'll likely close Dollverse next Friday under the branding 'Ditch The Tech', with a simple, clear list of ways to help by donating or buying stuff with money going to charity.

I definitely think information is good, but if you present people with a massive list of places to donate they're less likely to actually look.

I'm also looking into seeing I can get any signed scripts etc to auction. It's one of those ethical issues of 'is it okay to ask the talent about these things?'.

I have a rare three day weekend, my boyfriend all of a sudden isn't able to visit from Montreal as was planned (his apartment complex caugh fire on Sunday night, still getting his life back together), so I'm free, hanging out online a lot today, and I'd like to help/contribute. Not sure how I can be of much use, depends on what you guys plan.
