Okay, first thoughts (so far)? GodDAMN it's good to see Nathan Fillion again! And he gets to be the good ol' Captain Tightpants badass we all know and love. And any show that uses a Doors song in an "action sequence" gets some major brownie points with me.
Oh, and Charles Martin Smith? Everyone mentions American Graffiti, but personally I will always love him for Never Cry Wolf.
More later...

Amy Acker! I hadn't heard that she would be in it too! (no matter how small the part)
Richard Brooks (Jubal Early)... also of the good.
It drives my bf crazy because I am always pointing out past guest stars from Joss' shows. I love it.
So, far I am liking the show.

There's something just RIGHT about seeing so many 'verse actors in one place. Let's see . . . Fred, Jubal Early, Phantom Dennis' homicidal mom (the waitress in the coffee shop) and some Canadian guy who always seems to hit a guy with a wrench . . .
Do we need to send Fox a fruit basket?

I say Fox gets a fruit basket once Drive makes it through to the end of the season.
I knew I'd enjoy the show for Nathan, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how intreguing the other characters are as well. Especially the father-daughter team and the Salazar brothers. I *heart* Winston. He's a cute thug.

I know I shouldn't have rewatched 'Happiness' so close to the premiere of Drive...

I think it's going to take me a while to watch for more than just Nathan and flashes of Amy Acker. The premiere did a good job of presenting the premise, especially in the way Tully missed the orientation so there would be a reason for chunks of exposition and making the viewer feel not quite up to speed. However, I felt Nathan, Rocket Man Dad and maybe Plastic Baby Mom are really the only drivers who are not doing that "TV acting" thing of going bigger to be noticed in an ensemble. I don't even know if that's how to describe it.
The solution of how to not have Plastic Baby Mom shoot Annoying Blonde Girl was clever and I hope that kind of twist will become more important than weaving in and out of traffic.
Quote: Charles Martin Smith? Everyone mentions American Graffiti...
Cindy Williams (who was minding the baby) was in American Graffiti, too, wasn't she?

Hell of a lot of fun.
Even though it's only been on for one night and two episodes so far, I'm pretty sure this is the best new show of the 2006-2007 season. I was genuinely entertained and captivated.
I'm not saying it's great yet, because it still feels a mite too TV-ish...wow, that's a weird-ass complaint about a TV show. Do you know what I mean? I mean, Firefly had the production and dramatic chops of a movie right from the start. Perhaps I don't mean "TV-ish," perhaps just "stilted." For example, the Salazar brothers. Those actors are not doing so well thus far.
Of course, Nathan is brilliant, and Amy was fantastic in her like one scene. That said, Alex isn't my favorite character so far...that honor would go to Wendy Patrakas played to perfection by Melanie Lynskey. Emma's dad is also great; my favorite moment of the "premiere event" last night was his face as the shuttle launched. Talk about poignancy.
So far, this is very clever and engaging, and shows real promise. These are the same words I said about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip before it took a massive nosedive, but I trust Tim more than I trust Aaron Sorkin.
It needs a little bit of work, but hey, growing pains are a part of every show. No show starts perfect (except for Firefly, The Sopranos, and Deadwood).
How cool is it that the next ep is on TONIGHT? Kick-ass.
We just need to beef up those ratings, or this might not come back from its planned hiatus... :\

So I managed to completely forget to DVR this, as I'd intended to do. Anyone know if the pilot will be repeated? It's not a premise that thrills me, but I want to see it if for no other reason than Nathan, Amy, and Tim Minear being part of it....

I wasn't blown away by the show, but it definitely got better the second hour than the first. I'm not an auto race person. However, like others have said on the black, Nathan just steals every scene he's in. He commands your interest on screen. Whatever happens to this series, I'm sure he's never going to be completely out of work. He's just that good. And Richard Brooks was tops, as well. They're going to have to work to get my sympathetic to some of the other characters, though.
And Cindy Williams made me feel really old all of a sudden.
